Name: Annabella Sanchez
Horses: Zanta Fee Van T Hofterjickel, Zersina, Cassano Z
Trainer: Savannah Talcott, Chris Kappler, Sarah Segal, Katie Kappler
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
Favorite travel accessory for traveling: My Macbook Air so I can keep up with social media and online school!
Favorite horse show: Split Rock Jumping Tour because it has a European flare to it that I love. Another one of my favorites is Opglabbeek that I visited while in Belgium. The whole atmosphere is really nice and the hot chocolate is of course amazing!
Major Goal for 2017: Competing in Young Riders -NAJYRC
Minor Goal for 2017: Further developing my younger horse and forming a partnership with my newest one!
Any Good luck/superstition tradition you do before a show: I do not have any superstitions! I hate the feeling of being rushed so I am always ready well ahead of time. If it is a big class, I try to walk the course more than once.
Something no nobody knows about you: I went on a service trip to Costa Rica with 15 people I had never met last summer! The bad part was not riding for 18 days, which is by far the longest I have gone without riding. It was an amazing experience. My favorite part was surfing and seeing the smiles on the childrens’ faces from the communities we visited.
What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time: I like going out to lunch with friends and swimming/relaxing by the ocean.
Favorite pre-competition meal: I always eat light before I compete, sometimes just a protein smoothie or an avocado toast.
One movie you can watch over and over again: Secretariat! Non-horse related would definitely be Reign and Quantico, which are tv shows I watch.
Your most prized possession: My rescue cat
If you could pick just one memory from your riding career to keep: My first grand prix back at home! I remember feeling a tiny bit nervous while walking and seeing the large crowd!
If you could pick just one meal to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be:
This is very hard since I love a variety of food! If I had to pick a type, it would definitely be Italian since I’m a big fan of Penne Alla Vodka and Pizza Margherita!
Favorite designer, in the horse industry and outside: Sarm Hippique and Alessandro Albanese! I wear Cavalleria Toscana breeches as well. I love fashion and mix many designers when I choose my outfits! Some of my favorite designers include Brunello Cucinelli, Cinq á Sept, & Alberto Fermani. I also love Stella McCartney’s line with Adidas for working out and street wear.
What influences your choice of riding outfit for the day: It depends on the weather and where I am going! On chilly mornings, I wear short sleeves and throw on a sweater or long sleeves with a vest. While at home I use my Sarm Hippique breeches and a variety of shirts, such as Kingsland and Sarm Hippique. When I go to the show I usually will wear my Hermés or Dimacci belts, Sarm Hippique show shirt & Cavalleria Toscana Breeches.
Favorite thing about Samshield: The helmets are so beautifully designed. They are chic & classic with a modern twist. I am currently using the premium helmet with the matching polo visor. I love the visor because it is so easy to attach as well as take off. It looks streamlined and functions so well. I also love the customer service, which is beyond helpful. Being a fan of longer brims, I am excited about the new Miss Shield. It is definitely going to be my next helmet!
Name: Kaley Cuoco
Horses: Poker Face, Si Bella, Bionetty, Zaza & Santos
What’s most appealing about riding/competing to you: The constant drive to be better. One day you can win the class, and the next day you are in the dirt!! This sport requires constant knowledge, patience and the ability to accept failure!
Best advice you’ve ever received from your trainer: Soak in the winning moments because they don’t happen every day!
Favorite pre and/or post competition meal: I can’t eat before I ride! That’s probably not a good thing!!
How does your day start before competing: I make sure to give my horses a ton of pre show kisses and treats!
How do you get over nerves before a big class: I definitely get nervous.. I tend to pull my helmet way down over my face so I don’t have to make eye contact with anyone. My trainer tells me to take deeps breaths and remember to trust my eye and my horse
Who do you look to for inspiration in your riding career: Obviously my boyfriend, Karl [Cook]. He cherishes his horses and how they are feeling. I have never met another rider who loves their horses as much as I do!
What are you doing when you’re not riding and working: I’m riding when I’m not riding 🙂
Three words to describe Samshield: Safe, sexy, durable
What made you decide to start riding: My mom grew up riding – after I stopped playing tennis, I needed another hobby- my mom suggested a riding lesson and the rest is history!
How would you describe your personal style in the show ring: I like a bit of bling! I’m obsessed w riding attire- there are so many chic hunt coats and helmets out there.. It’s hard to choose!
What does riding do for you mentally when your career is in the spotlight: There is something inexplainable about this sport. The competition, the horse/rider relationship, the drive, the ups and down! I love that I’m learning something new every single day… It’s never easy but what’s what keeps me coming back for more
Marco Kutcher, hands down. I saw him warming up at the 2015 Longines Masters of LA and was totally fascinated. I think German riders in general put a heavy emphasis on precision and that’s something I really admire about his riding style. Also, I love Cornet Obolensky so he would be a dream to ride.
