15 Questions with Helen Pollock of Life Equestrian
How did you begin your blog?
What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day m-f looks like me getting up around 8am, heading to work at FX Networks. Throughout the day I am dreaming of riding, so naturally hosting my IG account is an ease and highlight of the day. When I finish up my corporate job, I head home to walk and feed my dog, Miss Kaiya. After some stretching and light meditation I cook some dinner and open my laptop to get to work on Instagram and my blog.
My weekends are my happy place….I get to be at the barn. Typically I’m up early for a lesson, riding in the arena by 9am. I have two lessons on Saturday and Sunday and then help ride some other horses so I’m usually out at the barn for about 4-5 hours. Coming home I take care of Miss Kaiya and focus on more mediation and stretching while opening up my laptop to do some more work. When I have some down time I love to catch up with friends for an early dinner or drinks out on the town.
If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be:
Oh, this is a tough question…I would love to have witnessed how Alexander the great tamed his wild horse, Bucephalus, an enormous stallion with a furious demeanor. The horse became his battle companion for most of Alexander’s life. Talk about the ultimate companion to have and how that could have come together with two fierce and powerful beings.
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
I feel like I never have 30 mins of free time….or maybe that’s because I’m good at filling my time ;-). For 30 mins of free time I would like to force myself to stretch and meditate. This is the most rewarding practice that helps set my day right.
Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out to be for the best?
Yes, all the time. I always find that I have to step back and think what the universe is aligning me for versus looking at things with a negative perception. An example of something that I thought was horrible that turned out for the best was my recent car accident that totaled my car in. At the end of the day it is only an object and everyone was safe so that’s the number one priority, however this enabled me to look into new car options with better gas mileage so all in all it turned out for the better.
Best gift you have ever received?
The best give I have ever received is the gift of confidence from my family and a dear friend who always has my back. Together they have lifted me when I was so low I didn’t know what to do. They have guided me to shift my thinking and believe in the power of the universe. For that I am forever grateful that my greatest gift is the gift of confidence that my family and dear friend Dr. Pernilla Nathan has given me.
Last three items on your credit card bill?
Last three items on my credit card bill are…1. Amazon, because who doesn’t love amazon for everything. 2. Equ Lifestyle Boutique because a girl can never have too much tack and riding clothes. 3. Authority Auto for the support in helping me purchase my new car.
What is your first memory of being really excited?
My first memory of being really excited was riding when I was riding my first horse Smokey. I will never forget the moment he turned around and looked at me, almost as if to say, I’ve got you, you’re safe. This has forever been engrained in my memory and heart and possibly one of the most pivotal reasons to why I love riding and the connection with the horse so much.
Something nobody knows about you?
Something nobody knows about me…..hmmm…I tend to think Im an open book, may be too open. I love to sing in the shower and surprisingly I’m a Rockstar…just nobody knows yet.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years I would like to be showing in the GP ring with Life Equestrian taking flight as my main source of funding. I don’t exactly know what that is going to look like but Im determined to make it happen.
What do you look for when purchasing riding clothes:
I look for three very important things…1. The quality and integrity of the clothing. I like to buy quality given the price point and the integrity of the product. 2. The Fit of the clothing item. Fit is super important for me, once I determine if I like the quality I quickly ensure it’s the right fit. 3. Style is the third item. I place style in third as I have to like the quality and integrity to get behind a particular style, then the fit must be right, then the style and how It can be paired with my closet.
Favorite thing about riding in Samshield:
My favorite thing about riding in a Samshield helmet is the safety. I know I’m in good hands when I click the buckle on my chin strap. The sleek style and design also plays a major role but safety is always top of mind when riding.
